Garden Spiders Live in My Backyard is the second book in the In My Backyard series. This book is designed to introduce children to the Black and Yellow Garden Spider through full-color photos that showcase each stage of its life cycle.
The story begins with the female spider weaving a large orb web in the garden and follows her until she builds an egg sac in the fall. The book culminates with hundreds of tiny spiderlings emerging in the spring and beginning the life cycle again.

After making and hanging the egg sac, the Black and Yellow Garden Spider spends all day spinning a tangled web around the egg sac.
This tangled web protects the egg sac from birds and insects and gives the baby spiders a place to hatch and grow.
The egg sac keeps the eggs safe and dry. It will hang in the same place all winter.
