About Her Work
Her children’s books celebrate the magic and mystery of nature and the creatures that inhabit the forest — even in her purely fictional adventure of Twalamander, who leaves his storybook forest to explore Kit’s world.

They range from non-fiction picture books like Winter in the Forest, Spring in the Forest, and ABC Animals to entertaining tales of book-dwelling salamanders that come out to explore the real world, to an enchanting turtle born without a shell.

In The Voice of Getchell, Richford draws from her mother’s personal notes and memories of life in a small Maine village known locally as In Behind the Mountain. Blending memoir and regional storytelling, the book preserves real accounts and community history shaped by the forests and the people who lived among them.

When not writing, you can find Richford working in the garden, tending to her flowers, birdwatching, or snapping photos of nature. On a chilly winter day, you may find her curled up with a book or busy sewing a new design.
